FSSAI stands for the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. It is an autonomous organization that works under the supervision of the Ministry of Health & Family affairs. The primary goal of this authority to regulate or control the quality of food that manufacture, store, export and import in India. It was established under the Food Safety & Standards Act Section 26. As per the law, FSSAI License Renewal are mandatory for types of food business operators. Before commencing any food business, it is compulsory to avail the request of FSSAI license. FSSAI registration is required for all food business include manufacture, reseller, traders, grocery shops, hotels, restaurants, exporters, home-based business food, and cold store. Whoever involved in the food business they must have 14 digit FSSAI registration number or Food license number which must be printed on food packing or display on the banner.
In India, the FSSAI license is compulsory to run a food business. The food license issued to the food operator can have a validity of 1 year or up to 5 years. FSSAI premium depends on the tenure period of the FSSAI license. As per the FSSAI rule, each food operator has to apply for Renewal FSSAI License every 30 days before the expiry of the current FSSAI license.

Types of FSSAI Registration Renewal
There are three types of FSSAI registration renewal, which are as follows:
FSSAI Basic Registration Renewal – The FSSAI Basic Registration renewal is applicable for FBOs whose food business annual turnover is below Rs.12 lakh. They need to apply for renewal in Form A.
FSSAI State License Renewal – The FSSAI State License renewal is applicable for FBOs whose food business annual turnover is more than Rs.12 lakh but below Rs.20 crore. They need to apply for renewal in Form B.
FSSAI Central License Renewal – The FSSAI Central License renewal is applicable for FBOs whose food business annual turnover is more than Rs.20 crore. They need to apply for renewal in Form B.
Late fee for Non-Renewal of FSSAI License
If the FSSAI registration renewal application is not filed at least 30 days before the expiry date, Food Business Operators (FBOs) must pay a late fee of Rs. 100 per day in addition to the regular renewal fee. It’s important to note that this late fee is specifically associated with license renewal and is not applicable in the case of registration. It incentives FBOs to ensure the timely renewal of their licenses to avoid additional costs.
Renewal of FSSAI license after expiry date
If the renewal of an FSSAI license is not filed at least 30 days before the expiry date, Food Business Operators (FBOs) must pay a late fee of Rs. 100 per day, in addition to the regular renewal fee. It’s important to note that this late fee is specifically associated with the renewal of licenses and is not applicable in the case of registration. It incentivises FBOs to ensure the timely renewal of their licenses to avoid additional costs.
Under the new policy for renewing the FSSAI License/Registration after the expiry date, Food Business Operators (FBOs) can continue with the same license number. However, there are penalties associated with late renewal:
- 1st day to 90th day from the original expiry date: Three times the existing annual license/registration fee.
- 91st day to 180th day from the original expiry date: An additional two times the existing annual license/registration fee, making it five times the regular fee.

Under what circumstances can the DO suspend the license ?
"Recall" means action taken by the FBO to withdraw any food from market which is not complying Section 28 of FSS Act, 2006.
FBO can approach concerned Designated Officer of concerned area. Designated Officer will create USER ID and issue you a new system generated license number which can be renewed through online process.
It will minimize the number of documents required during renewal of license. The old license number will also be attached with the new license number. FBO will be able to track the application during the course of processing
